Our story
Who is part of the team behind Grindstone? How did all of this start? We recap the whole thing right here.
The full story
Grindstone started as a labour of love in late 2016. Disenchanted by the writing competition scene, now bestselling author Daniel Morgan decided that there had to be a better way of doing things. Alongside a long time friend, he founded Grindstone as a simple flash fiction and short story competition website while studying at university. The ethos was simple: transparency and honesty. Each piece was read and a few lines of feedback were provided just to make sure entrants knew their work was being considered. People responded to this, they liked it, needed it. And Grindstone began to grow.

Flash forward six years, and the Grindstone Literary International Novel Prize is one of the largest and most highly regarded competitions in the field. Every year, we over a thousand entries from every corner of the globe, passing along the most promising to our ever-growing list of affiliate agents. Daniel has worked across multiple genres as both an author and editor, and has forged a career on both sides of the publishing spectrum, both as an indie and traditionally published writer. He oversees the judging of the prize personally along with a team of talented readers, and every year chooses a selection of work that agents can't wait to get their hands on.
Thank you, and remember, here at Grindstone, it's always time to work.
